How to Create a Local Admin Account on Your UniFi Gateway
RD4U connects directly to your UniFi gateway using a local account. It does not support cloud login credentials. To use RD4U, you’ll first need to create a local admin account on your UniFi Dream Machine or gateway. There are two ways to create a local admin account
1. If you are configuring a Cloud Gateway for the first time (assuming you are directly connected to it via ethernet cable)
- Connect directly from yor computer to the Cloud Gateway using an ethernet cable
- Open a new browser window and log in to your Cloud Gateway (go the default IP address or '//unifi')
- When you see the setup screen, click on "Other Configuration Options"
- Click on Setup the Console Offline, then click Setup the Console Offline again in the pop up window that appears.
- Enter a password, click Finish, and wait for the Gateway to complete its setup.
- Click on Go to Dashboard and then log in using the password you just entered (username is 'admin' if you are asked for one) to confirm that you are ready to use RD4U.
- You will now have a local account credentials that RD4U can use to access the Gateway on your local network (User: admin; Password: the passworkd you just entered)
- Note 1: When you are done using RD4U (and after you have connected your Gateway to your UniFi Cloud Account), you can remove this local account if you have no further need for it
- Note 2: To allow for remote access from your UniFi Cloud Account (when you are done with RD4U), log into the Gateway, goto Settings->Control Plane->Console and check Remote Access, then follow the instructions to link the Gateway to your UniFi Account.
2. If you have already set up your Cloud Gateway and/or you access the Gateway via your UniFi cloud account
- Log in to your UniFi Gateway
- Navigate to Settings → Admin & Users
- Click “Create New Admin”
- Check the box for “Restrict to Local Access Only”
- Enter a username and password
- Click Save
- You will now have a local account that RD4U can use to access the Gateway on your local network (eg 192.168.1.1) using the username and password credntials you just created.
- Confirm you have properly created the local account as follows:
- Connect your Windows/Mac computer to one of the LAN ports on your Cloud Gateway via an ethernet cable
- Enter the ip address of your gateway into your browser
- Log in to the Gateway with with the credentials you just created.
- Once you have confirmed that this works, you should be all set to use RD4U.
- When you are done using RD4U, you can remove this local account if you have no further need for it.
