A guided, safe way to set up your UniFi network without guesswork.
Rapid Deployment For UniFi (RD4U) is a free Windows + macOS wizard that helps you design and configure your UniFi network step by step, so you always understand what is being changed, and why.
Define what you want your network to do — RD4U helps make it work.
UniFi gives you a lot of power, but that power often comes with complexity, especially if you’re new to UniFi. VLANs, firewall rules, and network relationships can be hard to reason about if you’re trying to build a secure network without becoming a firewall expert first.
RD4U was created to make that process clearer and more intentional. Instead of starting with low-level settings, you start with what you want your network to do. RD4U then helps translate that into a design you can review, understand, and trust.
Why people choose RD4U:
The result is a UniFi configuration that feels deliberate, understandable, and much easier to get right.
I switched from an ASUS router to UniFi expecting more control, and I got it. But I also got overwhelmed by VLANs, firewall logic, and second-guessing whether my setup was actually secure.
After days of reading, testing, and reconfiguring, I finally built the setup I wanted: segmented, secure, and stable. Then it hit me that most people upgrading to UniFi don’t have the time (or desire) to go that deep.
So I built RD4U to give you the benefits of that hard-earned setup without the pain.
RD4U lets you define how your network should behave, then walks you through turning that into a working UniFi configuration. Instead of guessing at settings, you define what you want — and RD4U builds it with you.
Whether you’re starting fresh or building on an existing UniFi setup, RD4U gives you a safe, guided path forward.
Best for first-time UniFi users, rebuilds, or anyone who wants a clean baseline.
Benefit: You get a clean, predictable starting point without having to piece everything together manually.
Best for existing UniFi setups with VLANs already defined.
Benefit: You keep what already works while making your network easier to understand, refine, and extend.
“I switched from ASUS to UniFi and managed to create an unstable mess even after watching and reading a lot. I reset my router and used RD4U — after one false start, bingo! Instant working network. The simulation feature alone saved me from another nuke-and-pave. A week of tweaks later and I'm thrilled with the result. It's rare to find products like RD4U that so clearly show how much thought went into making it easy to use.”

RD4U walks you through your UniFi setup step by step. You define what you want your network to do, and the wizard helps turn that into a working configuration.
The process is simple and structured:
You stay in control the entire time. Nothing is applied unless you choose to proceed.
One of the hardest parts of UniFi configuration is getting firewall rules right. Rule order, direction, and hidden interactions can make it difficult to understand what is actually allowed.
RD4U replaces that complexity with a visual, intent-based approach that’s easier to reason about. Instead of building rules manually, you define how networks and devices should communicate and RD4U translates that into the required firewall rules.
Before anything is applied, RD4U shows you exactly what will change. You can review the configuration, explore the results, or exit without making any modifications.
This makes it much easier to build a secure network without trial and error.
The preview below shows how RD4U visualizes network relationships and applies your design.
Step 5 – Define how networks communicate
Select Smart Devices and RD4U configures discovery and firewall rules automatically
RD4U never makes changes automatically.
Before anything is applied, you can review a complete preview of the configuration RD4U plans to create. This includes all firewall rules and related settings, VLAN creation or changes, and other configuration generated by the wizard.
Preview Mode allows you to:
Only when you click Write Changes does RD4U begin configuring your gateway. Progress is shown step by step, so you always know what is happening.
If you’re not ready, you can stop at Preview Mode, go back, and make adjustments.
Step 6 - Preview Mode and Write Changes
Preview Mode shows exactly what would be configured. Nothing is written unless you choose to apply it. The result is a UniFi setup that feels easier to understand and much easier to get right.
Because RD4U connects directly to your UniFi gateway, security, transparency, and user control were non-negotiable design goals from the very beginning:
RD4U is designed to work with UniFi Cloud Gateways and runs locally on your computer. The requirements below outline what’s supported and what to expect before getting started.
Supported UniFi Cloud Gateways
As of , RD4U has been tested with the following UniFi Cloud Gateways, and should work with any UniFi Cloud Gateway that is running Network v8.6.9 or higher

Operational notes
No installation is required on UniFi hardware — the wizard connects directly via the UniFi API.
For best results, start with either a) a factory-reset UniFi Cloud Gateway or b) an existing setup after clearing your firewall rules (RD4U will import your existing VLANs).
Yes. RD4U can import existing VLANs and help you generate firewall rules for them. Existing VLANs are not deleted.
No. RD4U does not import existing firewall rules. It generates new firewall rules based on the configuration you define in the wizard.
Only if you choose to apply changes. RD4U can add or modify VLANs and create new firewall rules. Existing VLANs are not deleted. If you start from a factory-reset gateway and choose to configure Wi-Fi, existing Wi-Fi networks will be replaced by those defined in the wizard.
Yes. Preview Mode shows all proposed changes before anything is written to your UniFi gateway. No changes are made unless you click Write Changes.
Yes. Preview Mode lets you explore the wizard without logging in and see what would be configured before connecting to your UniFi gateway.
Not always. RD4U supports two workflows: starting fresh from a factory-reset gateway, or importing existing VLANs into an existing setup.
Yes. RD4U runs locally and connects to UniFi using a local account. Credentials are sent only to your UniFi gateway over your local connection.
No. RD4U runs on your computer and uses the UniFi API. Nothing is installed on your UniFi hardware.
RD4U works with UniFi Cloud Gateways running UniFi Network version 8.6.9 or higher.
Yes. RD4U is free to use. Donations are optional and help support ongoing development.
Free to use. Runs locally. No changes unless you choose to apply them.
Preview Mode lets you explore the wizard without logging in and see exactly what would change before anything is written to your UniFi gateway.
The latest version of RD4U is v2.1 (March 31, 2026), code-signed by Photolightning Corporation. RD4U runs locally on Windows/macOS (Apple Silicon) and does not require any installation on your UniFi devices.
